Removals from the UK to Spain
MuveOne’s removals from the UK to Spain run door to door, with customs clearance included in every quote. The road we record from London to Madrid is 16.7 hours of driving, so no delivery range on this lane begins before day 3, and a van of your own reaches Madrid within 3–5 days. Your exact document list is personal: once you’ve got your quote, we go through your situation and instruct the precise pack rather than a generic checklist.
Customs clearance is included in every quote for removals to Spain.
An assistant that speaks MCP can ask for a quote at https://muveone.co.uk/api/agent/mcp.

Customs authorities can ask for more. What each document is, how the two stages run after your quote, what stands in when you start out with family, and what happens if customs asks for more: all on how customs clearance works.

Questions people ask about UK to Spain removals
The Spanish side asks for a signed declaration that your household goods stay yours after import: not for sale, hire or handing on once they arrive. It is one sheet of your pack, and we tell you what goes on it.
Relief for household goods rests on a genuine change of residence, so a second home is a different customs situation. Tell us what you're moving and why: we go through it with you after your quote and instruct the pack that fits.
The Spanish pack is due 7 days before your collection window, the finalised inventory 3 calendar days before, and your booking confirmation shows both dates.
Removals from the UK to Spain, in facts
Every corridor we serve has its own facts: customs pack, transfer-time range, weight limits. We publish them rather than making you ask. These are confirmed for removals from the UK to Spain, because allowances differ by country.
* 5–10m³ travels consolidated with other moves, so its range is widest.
The matrix offers 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 m³ on removals from the UK to Spain, and the biggest load carries up to 2,400 kg. Our tool records 16.7 hours of driving to Madrid, which is why nothing here is delivered before day 3. The Channel sailing is not in that figure: a crossing counts as the driver’s rest, not as driving. We quote a shared 5 m³ load at 3–10 days, because it waits for a van to fill, and a 30 m³ van of your own at 3–5 days.
Figures for London to Madrid, from our routing and weight tools; your quote then confirms them for your exact addresses.
Removals to Spain, planned: the road, the days and who turns up
The road to Madrid, and the sailing that counts as rest
Our routing tool records the drive from London to Madrid at 16.7 hours. It leaves England at Portsmouth and lands at Cherbourg after about three hours at sea. Then it keeps to the Atlantic side of France: Normandy, the Loire, Bordeaux and the coast road to the Basque border. From Irun the motorway climbs to Burgos and drops into Madrid. The sailing is not part of the driving figure, because a crossing is the driver’s rest. It never eats into the hours the tachograph allows at the wheel each day.
There are other ways over the water, and your driver may take one of them. Dover to Calais sails in an hour and forty minutes, with up to thirty departures a day; the tunnel takes thirty-five minutes. The long sea routes spend a night on board and save most of France: Plymouth to Santander in about nineteen hours, Portsmouth to Santander or Bilbao in about twenty-four. Whichever crossing the van takes, the range your quote gives already allows for it. You never choose a crossing, and you are never charged for the one the driver picks.
Madrid is the example, not the limit. The same tool puts Valencia four hours beyond the capital, Málaga six and Barcelona seven. A coastal address therefore adds up to a day of road at the far end. The Canary Islands are the exception on this lane: no road move reaches them, so a move there is a different service and we say so before we quote.
What day 3 means for your arrival in Spain
Loading day is day one, and that drive is why the earliest delivery on this lane is day 3. We quote a van of your own, 20 or 30 m³, at 3–5 days. A 5 or 10 m³ load shares its van with other moves, so we quote it at 3–10 days: a part load waits for the van to fill, and we say so rather than promise a date. Every lane sits side by side in our guide to how long a removal to Europe takes, and the sharing itself is explained in our guide to part-load removals.
Arrival matters most when you fly out after the van has gone. Many people moving to Spain ask whether their belongings could reach the flat before they do. The honest answer is that with a shared load they might. So we book the collection so that the top of the range still falls after your own arrival. If your flight moves, we move it. We confirm the exact loading time the day before the van comes, and the same thread stays open until the last box is off.
The collection window is the other date to plan around, and each size has its own: a 4-day window on a shared 5 m³ load, down to a confirmed day on a 30 m³ van. We choose the loading day inside it and tell you the time in advance. The window is our scheduling room, not your packing time, so be packed and ready from its first day.
Who turns up for removals in Spain, at both ends
In London the crew that loads you is our own; outside London we work with one partnership company that loads anywhere in the UK. Madrid is one of our two strongest partner hubs, so people we have worked with for years handle a delivery in or around the capital. The rest of Spain is covered partner by partner, route by route. We tell you who is coming: once we confirm a van, the driver’s name and the registration reach you by email. That is also the moment to say if the street is narrow or the flat is on the fourth floor without a lift. The driver’s help is at the van; carrying up stairs, or from a street the van cannot reach, is the Additional Crew add-on, arranged in advance and priced in writing. Our page on how international removals work sets out the standard service.
Madrid’s centre, the padrón and the licence
Madrid’s own centre adds a rule of its own. The city runs a low-emission zone over the Distrito Centro. It bars unlabelled vehicles outright, and it lets label B and C vehicles in only to park, never to pass through. So a delivery inside it is planned on the zone’s terms, from a bay the city allows, and we check the address against the map before we quote.
A word on paperwork, since it decides more Spanish moves than the van does. Spain asks a new resident to register on the padrón at the town hall, and the customs relief rests on proof that you have made Spain your home. This page is about the move itself. The plan counted back from collection day, the two customs routes and the document packs are in our guide to moving to Spain from the UK. Read it before you book if your residency steps have not started.
One Spanish deadline is yours alone, and it starts the day you arrive. A UK licence is good for six months of driving in Spain. After that you exchange it, with a check code from the DVLA, and you apply before the six months run out. It has nothing to do with the van, but it is the question we are asked most once the boxes are in.
August in Spain, and the dates that move a collection
Spain’s traffic authority runs three special operations in August alone: around the first of the month, around the 15th, and the return at the end. Those weekends fill the roads south. The year’s traffic resolution also restricts goods lorries on named stretches at the busiest hours, which can add a day to a range rather than take one away. If your dates are flexible, a collection in the first half of July or in September gives the van an emptier road. Town halls run reduced hours in August too, so a padrón appointment can land later than you planned.
Spain’s holidays come in two layers, and the state gazette prints both each autumn. Eight days hold everywhere: New Year, Good Friday, the first of May, the twelfth of October, All Saints, the sixth and eighth of December and Christmas. Then each region adds its own. Madrid, Andalucía and Catalonia each have days the others do not, and some regions keep the Assumption in mid-August while others replace it. A delivery due on one of them may find the building closed, so we fix the delivery day around the calendar of the region you are moving to.
Our own calendar has two fixed points: a collection is never a Sunday, and the booking calendar already blocks the days of our Christmas and New Year closure. A Spanish holiday does not stop the van once it is on the road. Tell us if your new address has a concierge or a gated community with its own hours, and we plan around those as well.
Booking removals to Spain with the price settled
Your price locks the moment you book, across every size, and stays locked whatever the day brings. In our published examples a 10 m³ load from London to Madrid came out at about £1,861; the guide on how much it costs to move abroad sets out what moves that figure. Customs clearance is inside the price. So is the crossing, long or short, whichever the driver takes. Your customs documents fall due 7 days before the window opens and your final inventory 3 calendar days before it; both dates sit on your booking confirmation. A 25% deposit at booking, the rest on the morning the van loads, and nothing in between.
Two things sit outside it, and we name them now rather than on the day. The first is weight: each size has its cap, and the thread further down shows a real customer working an inventory down to a single van. Telling us early that you are over moves you up a size for the locked difference, not into an emergency. The second is help beyond the van door, the Additional Crew above. A capped policy with named exclusions covers your goods from loading until arrival; the cap and the excess live on our insurance and claims page, and nowhere else, so they are never out of date here.
The whole journey on this route
Customs is a step in the journey rather than a mystery at the border, and on removals to Spain it’s included and handled by us.
