Moving After Brexit? Documents You Will Need to Move to France
Moving from the UK to France is not as simple as it used to be. Brexit has changed the rules and regulations for residential moves between the EU and the UK. You now need to follow the Transfer of Residence procedure to avoid paying import VAT on your belongings (in France, the VAT rate is 20%). At MuveOne, we want to make your move to France after Brexit as hassle-free as possible. That’s why we will ask you to provide us with some necessary paperwork for customs clearance.
The Documents You Need to Provide for Us to Pick Up Your Goods:
A clear copy of your ID card or Passport
To certify residency in France, a certificate from the local council is required. Alternatively, if approved by the EU customs agent, you may be able to provide a document confirming your status as an EU resident or your intention to become one. For instance:
- If you reside with your family in the EU, please have them complete and sign this template and submit a copy of their personal ID along with a utility bill displaying the address.
- If you are employed in the EU, please present your EU employment contract.
- If you have established living arrangements in the EU, please supply a utility bill in your name and address, your tenancy agreement, or the property ownership deed.
A packing list with your signature, including each item’s value, size and weight. Make sure to use all fields in the MuveOne Insurance Form.
A self-certificate (please use this template) to declare that you have owned and used the household items in your UK residence for more than six months, will not sell, rent or pledge them after moving to your new place, and intend to stay as an EU resident for at least one year.
A UK certificate of residence or other evidence to show that you have lived in the UK for 12 months (e.g. 12 months of bank statements or council tax bills with your address).
A signed authorisation for the customs clearance agent to act on your behalf. You will receive a blank form from MuveOne after you confirm your booking.
Please print and sign all the documents and put them in a large envelope for the driver. Please also send us the completed documents electronically via the customer portal for verification.
You will also need a CMR or cargo movement form, which the driver will provide you on the day of your move.
