What Documents to Prepare for Moving from the UK to Spain
When moving from the UK to Spain, there are certain documents you’ll need due to the post-Brexit reality and the increased bureaucratic procedures involved in cross-border movement. Relocations, in particular, require special attention as they must qualify as a Transfer of Residence approved by the customs authority in Spain to be exempt from fees and taxes imposed on regular imports. Without this qualification, regular imports can be subject to an import VAT rate of up to 21% in Spain. To ensure a cost-effective residential move, we have compiled a list of essential documents that you’ll need to prepare.
Upon Receipt of the Following Documents, We Can Proceed with Your Removal:
A clear copy of your ID card or Passport.
A certificate issued by the local council in Spain, confirms your residency. Alternatively, if approved by the EU customs agent, you may provide a document that verifies your status as an EU resident or your intention to become one. For instance:
- If you reside with your family in the EU, kindly request them to complete and sign this template. Additionally, provide copies of their personal IDs and a utility bill displaying the address.
- If you are employed in the EU, please submit your EU employment contract.
- If you have established living arrangements in the EU, please supply a utility bill in your name and address, or your tenancy agreement, or the property ownership deed.
A comprehensive packing list, duly signed, including the value, size, and weight of each item. Please ensure that all fields in the MuveOne Insurance Form are completed.
A UK certificate of residence or any other documentation indicating that you have resided in the UK for at least the past 12 months (e.g., 12 months of council tax bills or bank statements showing your address).
A self-certificate (please utilize the provided template) to inform the customs authorities that you have utilized the household objects at your primary residence in the UK for over six months. Additionally, confirm that you have no intentions to sell, rent, or pledge these items after their arrival at your new location, and express your commitment to remain an EU resident for at least one year.
A signed authorization allowing the customs clearance agent to act as your direct representative. After confirming your booking, MuveOne will send you a blank form.
Please ensure that all documents are printed, signed, and prepared in a large envelope for the driver. Furthermore, please ensure that you electronically submit the completed documents through the customer portal for verification purposes.
Please note that there is an additional form, the CMR (cargo movement form), which you will need to fill out on the day of your move.
